The unusual story of the AD79 Bodleian Library scroll that was carbonized into a lump and buried under ash meters deep during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. It was found in the early 1800s and given by Ferdinand IV, the king of Naples and Sicily, to the future George IV of England (supposedly in an exchange for kangaroos). The current contest is for someone to help figure out how to read the scroll using a means that can detect the difference between the coal and ink, such that the ancient Greek script could then be read.
