Tsipras "Greece’s Would-Be Savior Launches Charm Offensive" - Harvey Morris / NYT
"The rest of Europe will get a closer look this week at Alexis Tsipras, the radical left-wing leader who, as one headline writer put it this week, is either a reckless gambler or the savior of Greece. The leader of the Syriza party, and potentially Greece’s next prime minister, was due in Paris on Monday at the start of a mission to tell Europe what he stands for."
I read somewhere that Tsipras had admiration for Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. Not counting the political program, probably many politicians would like to wield the powers of the pseudo-dictatorship of Chavez, where political competitors are run out of the country and the treasury is used to pay off the party's political base. Would this just be an amplification of more recent Greek politics? The Junta?
